Denny Hamlin has harsh opinion about racetrack at Texas Motor Speedway
Last weekend, William Bryon won at Texas Motor Speedway. That came, despite racing on a track at Texas Motor Speedway that fellow driver Denny Hamlin has several major complaints about.
While breaking down the race on the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin stopped to make sure he spent some time talking about the issues that he has with Texas Motor Speedway.
“That track is just challenging,” Denny Hamlin said. “You know, I had on my notes here to talk about the track.”
For Hamlin, the issues at Texas Motor Speedway go back to its redesign. That was done by SMI, which has been criticized for its redesigns before, including by others at Texas Motor Speedway.
“I don’t know where we go with Texas. SMI, they went rogue when they redesigned it. I don’t know they really asked anybody about the redesign, they just did it. They’ve redesigned a lot of tracks that a lot of them we don’t race anymore.”
One thing that Denny Hamlin is annoyed with, in particular, is how slick the track is thanks to something that’s on it.
“It’s got this crap on the racetrack that’s really hurting it. The redesign on one and two, we’ve got 80 feet of racetrack up there that we never even touch, so what’s the point of making it that wide? Then the stuff, the PJ1 or the resin, or whatever the hell we’re running, it’s just so slick that you can’t even touch it,” Hamlin said.

“So, I was saying in the media center that surely there’s some sort of chemical that could wash this racetrack off. Whatever that is, there’s got to be some sort of degreaser or something that will eat away at that PJ1 or resin to get it off the track. We’ve got to get it off the track somehow.”
Denny Hamlin argued that this is forcing cars to race in lanes, not allowing them to use the entire track, and ultimately hurting the race.
Denny Hamlin predicts ‘another s*** show’ at Talladega
Next up on the calendar is Talladega. There, Denny Hamlin is expecting trouble to come up once again.
“We’re going to Talladega now. It’s going to be, I don’t know, I thought Daytona would be a s*** show, it didn’t really turn out to be, as much. I guess I’ll call this week, another s*** show,” Hamlin said.
Ahead of Daytona, Denny Hamlin predicted a crash fest. That, ultimately, didn’t prove to be the case. However, he seems to have a good feeling about there being issues at Talladega. Whether he’s right or wrong remains to be seen.
