Denny Hamlin felt bad for Joey Logano, who had a rough pit stop near the end of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday. On the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin reacted to Logano’s pit stop that led to him losing the race.

“That was a killer for them,” Denny Hamlin said. “They were going to be contenders challenging Josh Berry for this victory. …What makes Vegas unique is these have polished concrete boxes. They’re very, very slick. Some pit boxes we go on brush concrete that’s got huge, huge grip, not only grip for the cars themselves but grip for the pit crews also.

“What happens is if you don’t come in dead straight, you hit the brake, it’ll lock up the fronts, it’ll hit that polished concrete, it’ll just go straight right towards the wall. It looked like to me that’s what happened. When it happened, I guess he lost about 20 spots. That was it.”

Joey Logano admits to making a mistake at Las Vegas

Joey Logano led the race for 40 laps on Sunday, and some of those laps came at the end of the race. Things went bad for the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion when Noah Gragson had an issue at Lapp 244 and the caution flag was thrown. This led to Logano making one final trip to pit road, but he did not properly hit his mark, which made it challenging for the crew to move around the No. 22 Ford. When the race came to an end, Logano earned a P15 finish.

“Tough way to end the weekend for us,” Logano said after the race, per racing reporter Toby Christie. “The last run was shaping up to look a lot like how last fall’s strategy played out for us, but I just made a mistake on pit road that I wish I could have back. Proud of the effort but should’ve had more to show for it.”

The win would have been huge for Joey Logano who is not off to the best start to the 2025 season. In five races this year, Logano has not earned a top-10 finish. But then again, the 34-year-old earned just one top-10 finish at this point last year and went on to win the Cup Series title.
