Denny Hamlin reacts to 'tough spot' for 23XI between Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace results
Denny Hamlin was in an interesting position after the Southern 500 at Darlington as he had different emotions for Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace. On the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin talked about Reddick winning the regular season championship for 23XI Racing and Wallace missing out on the playoffs.
“It’s a tough spot because you want to celebrate with your team that accomplished something great, Tyler Reddick and that whole 45 team and what they were able to do this year for the first 26 races,” Hamlin said. “And then you got to put your arm around the other and say keeping digging. This is just part of the process and it’s part of getting better.
“We’ve seen throughout Bubba’s 23XI career that he continues to get better when it comes to how many points he’s scoring, how many top fives, how many top 10s. He’s progressing in the manner that we’re hoping he progresses. Truly enough, if you can find a way to bottle up whatever has been inside you for the last 10 races and just copy and past it for next year for the 26 races, you won’t have this discussion, you won’t be on the bubble, you’ll win a race or two. You’ll not be in a points position where you have to sweat it out in the last race.”

“It’s tough to go back and look. You can pick apart the races each weekend. We gave up points here or there. It’s a tough thing. For them, if they just go through the rest of this, focus on continuing to improve that consistency, they’ll be better off for next year.
“At the end of the day, though, there’s just some things you can’t control, man. I feel like a lot of times this year they’ve been right in the middle of stuff happening on the racetrack. A lot of times this year, I don’t know how to explain it, when things have happened on the racetrack, I’ve missed it and been able to benefit from it.”
