How could this day, no, these NASCAR Playoffs, get any worse for Denny Hamlin? He was just in his second wreck of the afternoon. This time, Hamlin was sent into the wall after going three-wide with Kyle Larson and Brad Keselowski.

Of course, Denny Hamlin was not happy after the wreck. He is watching his championship hopes fade away after just a couple of races in the postseason. Not to mention, Larson and Keselowski are two drivers he is competing against in the playoffs.

Here is how the wreck went down.

This is what Hamlin and his team said on the radio, via Matt Weaver of Sportsnaut. Someone was also heard saying “They just spun us” on the radio.

Looking back on the conservative Atlanta strategy that Denny Hamlin had last week, it looks worse and worse by the minute. He raced scared, not to win. Hamlin tried to outsmart the system and forgot that at the end of the day, he has to race.

Today has not gone according to plan. Next week at Bristol could be a must-win race for Hamlin and the 11 team.

Denny Hamlin involved in Lap 1 wreck at Watkins Glen

On Lap 1 at Watkins Glen there is big trouble for two NASCAR Playoff drivers, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney. Worst case scenario. Blaney is going to be done on the day while Hamlin will try to make repairs and salvage his afternoon.

This is the last thing that the defending champion and Hamlin wanted to see. Going into the bus stop, things got crowded and then disaster struck.

Corey LaJoie got into Kyle Busch. That sent Busch around and then other cars began to make contact and wreck. Christopher Bell was another playoff driver involved.

Last week’s conservative strategy at Atlanta is starting to look like a horrific mistake for Hamlin. He only earned 13 points last week for his efforts and he needed much more. This week he had to have a strong performance and now his race is up in the air.
