The Denver Broncos have released their first unofficial depth chart for the 2024 season ahead of Sunday’s preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix is listed as third on the depth chart.

The former Oregon star is behind both Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson on the depth chart.

Bo Nix was drafted by the Broncos with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He arrived in Denver after a record-setting final college season at Oregon.

Nix, who started his college career at Auburn, was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2023 and was also a Heisman finalist.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton became a big fan of Nix during the pre-draft process and ended up selecting him in the first half of the first round.

Not long after the draft, Payton appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and explained what he and the Broncos like about the former Oregon Ducks quarterback.

“The most accurate passer in college football history,” Payton said while listing all the stats for Nix during the 2023 season. “He’s extremely smart and he handles the protections and he’s a tough sack” Payton also added that Nix’s “arm’s strength is extremely impressive,” and “he throws it from a noisy pocket.”

Payton went on to mention the challenges Nix faced in his career. “I also like the fact he’s had some adversity,” he said. “He was at Auburn and he battled back.” Payton added that Nix is “so accurate with the football” and was impressed with what he saw from him during his Pro Day.

While Bo Nix isn’t the starting quarterback at this point, he still has plenty of time to work his way up the depth chart.

A strong showing during the preseason could certainly help his chances.

However, for now it’s Jarrett Stidham who is QB1. The former Auburn and Baylor QB is entering his sixth season in the NFL after being drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Thus far during his professional career, Stidham has appeared in 16 games. He has thrown for 1,422 yards, with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions.

As for Zach Wilson, the former BYU star was selected No. 2 overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, he has struggled thus far in the NFL. The hope is that a change of scenery will help him out.
