Former New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi is on the move. He found a job with the Denver Broncos. According to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, Rizzi has been hired as the Broncos special teams coordinator on Friday. According to Nick Underhill, he will be the assistant head coach for Denver, as well as their special teams’ coordinator.

There were a number of Saints players, such as star running back Alvin Kamara, who openly endorsed Rizzi for the head coach position with the franchise. Kamara did not get his wish, and the former Saints interim head coach is heading to the Rocky Mountains to reunite with Sean Payton. Kellen Moore is now the new head coach for New Orleans and was recently introduced at a press conference.

Rizzi led the Saints to the second-best special teams’ unit in the entire NFL in Rick Gosselin’s rankings in 2023 (the latest rankings). The Broncos were seventh.

Rizzi has previously held special teams’ jobs with New Haven (1994-96), Northeastern (1998), Rutgers (2002-07) and the Miami Dolphins (2009-2018). Rizzi is one of the league’s best special teams’ coordinators and clearly had the confidence of New Orleans best offensive player in Kamara.

Kamara’s call for Rizzi to get the job was met with mixed reactions from the Saints fanbase, and the 29-year-old running back followed up with another post.

“Ion really speak too much football,” Kamara wrote. “Especially in the offseason. But it be funny hearing why yall think a coach should get a job or not. But then again.. the last time some yall played organized anything was last night on 2k. Can’t een get ya best friend to pass you the ball at the park. Wife mad as hell you yelling on the game all night.”

In searching for their new head coach, the Saints completed interviews with Rizzi, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
