Denver Broncos third-year receiver Tyrie Cleveland suffered a leg injury at the team’s minicamp on Monday, according to Broncos reporter Aric DiLalla. The Florida product apparently had to be carted off the field, and his status going forward is unknown.

The Broncos selected Cleveland in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft and he finished his rookie season with six catches for 63 yards. He has appeared in 17 games over the past two season primarily on special teams.

Prior to his NFL career, Cleveland was a four-star recruit and the No. 62 overall player in the 2016 class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. He went on to become a four-year contributor in Gainesville and helped lead the team to an Orange Bowl victory in his senior season. He ended his Gators career with a total of 79 catches, 1,271 yards and eight touchdowns.

Although the injury to Tyrie Cleveland would certainly be a blow to the Broncos receiving corps, there are still high expectations for Denver entering 2022. The team traded for former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson this offseason and expects it to have a major impact on the offense. The Broncos passing attack that ranked just 19th in the NFL this past season, but features some talented young receivers in Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton.

Denver also added rookie receiver Montrell Washington in the 2022 NFL Draft this past April. The Broncos have not been to the playoffs since 2015, when they won the Super Bowl with Peyton Manning at quarterback. Coming off of a 7-10 finish this past season, they expect to change that in 2022.

Denver is set to open the season on Sept. 12 against Wilson’s former team in Seattle. Hopefully Tyrie Cleveland’s injury is not too severe and he can be ready to go for that one as well.
