Denver Nuggets fans launch fireworks and climb streetlights in postgame party in streets
The Nuggets had never won an NBA title until Monday night. And it’s safe to say that Denver fans celebrated like veterans.
As the confetti started swirling inside Ball Arena, the crowds outside turned into one glittering mass of humanity. The fireworks only added to the party.
Downtown Denver was Nuggets party central. Screaming fans blocked streets and climbed up street lights. One enterprising, possibly over-served fan used a red light to do push ups. Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take social media account shared some video with the caption “Denver is going wild right now.”
Denver police investigating shooting that wounded 10
However, the party did get out of control in one section of downtown. The Denver Post reported that police were investigating a shooting that wounded 10. Police said the alleged shooter also suffered a gunshot wound. The Denver police say that three victims were transported to the hospital. Each was listed in critical condition.
The Denver social media team tweeted updates of the shooting, which apparently happened after midnight.
“Update 1/2: Nine total gunshot victims have been identified from the shooting in the 2000 Block of Market St, plus a suspect who also sustained a gunshot wound. 3 victims are in critical condition, the other victims & the suspect are believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.”
And “Update 2/2: This is a complex, ongoing investigation in its early stages. Preliminary info indicates multiple shots were fired during an altercation involving several individuals. Updates will be provided as they become available.”

Nuggets started party with 94-89 victory over Heat
The city will honor the Nuggets with a parade, Thursday. So count on the party continuing at least through the end of the parade.
Denver clinched the title with a 94-89 victory Monday night over the Miami Heat. The thumping was thorough. The Nuggets needed only five games to clinch the trophy.
Denver star Nikola Jokic earned the Bill Russell championship series MVP award. He enjoyed a monster postseason, redefining the term dominance. After all, Jokic became the first player in league history to lead in points (600), rebounds (269) and assists (190) in a single postseason.
Of course, there were the obligatory “how does this feel” questions in post-game. The Nuggets have been in existence for almost a half-century. This is their first title.
“It’s good,” Jokic said, as he gauged his immediate reaction to winning. “The job is done. We can go home now.”
But the Nugget fans wanted no part of going home.
