Derek Carr injury update: ESPN broadcast updates status of Saints QB
Monday Night Football has been a grind for the New Orleans Saints against the Kansas City Chiefs, being down 10 points late in the fourth quarter. They may have to go the rest of their way without their quarterback, as Derek Carr is heading back to the locker room following an injury.
“Carr’s out of the tent, walking the sideline with no helmet,” Ross Jackson said via X. “Looks like he might be headed to the locker room.”
ESPN’s Lisa Salters provided an update as the broadcast showed Carr heading to the locker room, saying it’s an oblique injury. His official designation is questionable but if he cannot get back out there in time, New Orleans will roll with Jake Haener.
Carr has completed 18 of 28 passes, going for 165 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. The Kansas City defense was able to get pressure all night, never allowing Carr to get comfortable. While New Orleans has put together some incredible offensive displays early in the season, this was not one of them.

For the most part, Monday’s game from Arrowhead Stadium is no longer in question with New Orleans down two scores with not too much time left on the clock. Carr’s injury instantly brings questions about the future as the Saints are likely set to fall to 2-3.
Unfortunately, playing on Monday night means a short week is ahead of them. Even worse, a division opponent is next on the schedule — the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kickoff is scheduled at home for 12 p.m. CT, making the week an even shorter one.
Carr and his health will be a big storyline moving forward, wondering if he can play in a crucial NFC South matchup. If not, Haener could be the guy until the oblique is back to full health. Rookie Spencer Rattler out of South Carolina is on the roster as well.
