Cubs-Cardinals is not the only baseball rivalry taking center stage in London. Yankees-Red Sox also has some good representation, despite both teams being stateside. FOX sent over three of the most influential players of baseball‘s historic rivalry — Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz, and Derek Jeter — to cover the London Series.
Jeter is new to the broadcasting side of baseball, making his debut on Saturday. Ortiz wanted to give a welcome gift out to his former rival, handing him a box after the Cubs took down the Cardinals. You could say Jeter was not too big of a fan.
Once the box was opened, Jeter’s name and famous No. 2 was printed on a Red Sox jersey. The Captain quickly threw it off the set once he realized what Ortiz had pulled off. Rodriguez, the other half of New York’s left side of the infield with Jeter, was smiling throughout as well.
You can watch the full moment between Jeter and Ortiz here.
Fans in both Boston and New York probably do not sit well with the jersey even existing. All 20 seasons of Jeter’s career were spent with the Yankees, winning five Gold Gloves, five World Series, and is now in the Hall of Fame. For all intents and purposes, he was the face of baseball’s most famous franchise for two decades.
Once retiring, Jeter moved into the ownership side of the sport with the Miami Marlins. He recently sold his share in the organization and has now moved into broadcasting with FOX.

Jeter joked he was going to cut his new career short after one day on the job. Unfortunately for him, there are probably a few more jokes coming his way via Big Papi. We are just entering the heart of baseball season and the hijinx will only get better.
Ortiz is no stranger to being able to laugh about the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. Once upon a time, he actually wore a Yankees hat for a ‘This is SportsCenter’ commercial. Red Sox mascot Wally was not too thrilled with the move, freaking out on Ortiz in ESPN’s offices in Bristol.
In what were some intense rivalries between the two players back in the day, it’s good to see them having some fun with one another. Yankees-Red Sox will never die but when the two are able to take a step back in the broadcasting world, it’s something everyone enjoys seeing.
