Details emerge on possible new stadium for Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills seem to be inching closer to a final plan on a new stadium. On Monday, details emerged on a possible agreement between the Bills and Erie County in New York. The deal would involve a historic amount of public money going towards the stadium.
“Governor Kathy Hochul is expected to announce a deal in which New York and Erie County pay nearly $1 billion towards a new $1.4 billion Bills stadium, per @nypost,” Front Office Sports tweeted. “It’d be the most public money ever spent on a U.S. stadium. It could open next to the current one as soon as 2026.”
The Bills currently play in Highmark Stadium, which is in Erie County, New York. Highmark Stadium opened initially in August of 1973, and has a 71,608 capacity. The Stadium has also been named Rich Stadium, Ralph Wilson Stadium, New Era Field, and Bills Stadium in previous years.
The Bills hope to carry recent success into a new stadium
It has been a successful run in Buffalo, as the Bills have won at least ten games in three consecutive seasons. The Bills have now won the AFC East division two years in a row. During the 2020 season, the Bills won in the Wild Card and Divisional rounds before losing in the AFC Championship to the Kansas City Chiefs. This past season, Buffalo blew out the New England Patriots in the Wild Card round before losing a thriller in overtime to the Chiefs.

The Bills have seen tremendous success since hiring head coach Sean McDermott before the 2017 season. Buffalo has been in the playoffs four out of the five seasons under McDermott, and things still look to be trending up. Prior to hiring McDermott in 2017, the Bills hadn’t made the playoffs since the 1999 season.
Now, the Bills are hoping to continue that success for years to come, and Buffalo should still have a winning football team by the time a new stadium comes around. The Bills have a strong core built around young, star quarterback Josh Allen, and fans should have a lot of excitement moving forward.
