Detroit Lions add former wide receiver Golden Tate to preseason broadcast team
The Detroit Lions announced on Thursday that former star wide receiver Golden Tate will join their preseason broadcast team this year. Tate will serve as an analyst for the team, providing his experienced takes on the Lions’ various matchups. He will join the crew with play-by-play announcer Jason Ross Jr., sideline reporter Dannie Rogers, producer Bart Fox, and director Bruce Treut.
In a statement for the Lions, Tate expressed his excitement about covering his former team while they’re in an era of success.
“When I signed with the Lions 10 years ago, I remember being impressed with the vision of the organization, and now I’m blown away by it,” Tate wrote. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the preseason broadcasts with Jason and Dannie to tell the stories of this Super Bowl-caliber group and share my experiences with the fans.”
“We’re thrilled to welcome Golden Tate to our talented crew,” said Detroit Lions Director of Broadcasting Carl Moll. “His impressive experience as a player, combined with his passion for the game, will undoubtedly contribute to creating amazing game broadcasts as we head into another exciting season, alongside Jason and Dannie.”
The TV crew will broadcast three preseason games locally on Fox 2 Detroit (WJBK) and throughout the Detroit Lions Television Network. Detroit faces the New York Giants on Aug. 8, the Kansas City Chiefs on Aug. 17 and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aug. 24.

Tate dips toes in broadcasting in post-playing career
Tate, a former second-round draft pick out of Notre Dame, called it a career in the NFL after 11 seasons following the 2020 season. He began his career by playing four seasons for the Seattle Seahawks. He then landed with the Detroit Lions. In Detroit, he experienced some of the best seasons of his career.
In his decade-plus career, Tate posted 695 receptions in regular-season games with 8,278 yards and 46 touchdowns. He exceeded 1,000 receiving yards three times – all with the Lions. He saw postseason action in six different seasons, including two years with the Lions.
After wrapping up his five years with Detroit, Tate then joined the Philadelphia Eagles for eight games to end the 2018 season. He signed with the New York Giants, where he ended his career, ahead of the 2019 season.
