Detroit Lions lose CB Emmanuel Moseley to torn pec muscle at training camp
The Detroit Lions lost cornerback Emmanuel Moseley to a torn pec muscle this week at training camp leading up to their first preseason game. Moseley is now out indefinitely and will likely need surgery to make a full recovery.
It’s horrible news compounded on horrible news as Moseley was making his way back from an ACL tear last season. In 2023, the Detroit defensive back suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in his first game since returning from the same injury on his left knee a year before.
Moseley joined the Lions last offseason. He spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers. They snagged him as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee. He played 45 games for the Niners, while making 33 starts. Moseley tallied 162 tackles, 33 passes defended and four interceptions while in the Bay Area.
The former Tennessee standout appeared in five games for the 49ers in 2022 before suffering the ACL injury. He has not played a complete season since 2019, which was his second year in the league.
Despite his injury last season, the Lions opted to re-up on the veteran cornerback. They signed him to a new one-year deal in March, inking him for $2.875 million. It’s hard to argue, however, that Moseley’s injuries haven’t cost him. After playing with the 49ers on a two-year deal for just over $9 million, his price tag went to $6 million for the Lions for the 2023 season. After his second ACL tear, the Lions are now paying him less than half of what they originally signed him for.

Moseley’s signing bonus of $1,000,000 was fully guaranteed, however, the rest of his deal is not fully guaranteed. The team could save over $2 million on the cap if they choose to release him following his new injury.
Lions, Giants joint practice gets rough
Moseley wasn’t the only Lions defender banged up at camp this week. The combined practice between the New York Giants and Detroit Lions was feisty all afternoon on Monday, with multiple fights breaking out in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
However, the most impactful hit happened on the field during a run play from the Giants. Star offensive lineman Andrew Thomas built up a head of steam, and Lions rookie defensive back Terrion Arnold was in his path. That’s when the freight train collided with Arnold, as Thomas laid the boom on the block.
While Arnold stayed up for a bit after the collision, FOX’s Ralph Vacchiano noted that the former Alabama star headed for the locker room for evaluation afterward.
