Detroit Lions signing Jake Fromm to practice squad
Jake Fromm is returning to the Detroit Lions after the team waived him on Tuesday. According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Lions are signing the former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback to the practice squad.
Fromm originally signed with the Lions on Aug. 12 after spending the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Washington Commanders. His NFL career began in 2020 when the Buffalo Bills selected him in the fifth round of the draft. Fromm didn’t play in a regular season for the Bills and signed with the New York Giants in November 2021. He played in three games for the Giants during the 2021 season and completed 45 percent of his passes while throwing for 210 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
In October 2022, Fromm signed with the Commanders and spent his time on the practice squad. He was moved up to the active roster by the end of the 2023 season but was cut by the Commanders in May.

Lions coach Dan Campbell says Jake Fromm is ‘headsy’
The Lions signed Fromm earlier this month due to a concussion suffered by Hendon Hooker. “He’s a smart, headsy guy. We feel like he’s going to be able to conduct the offense pretty fast, enough to be able to go out and help us if need be,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said, per Pride of Detroit. “He can anticipate all the throws, and just with where we’re at, we felt like he could come in and function. He’s someone we feel like can work in the pocket and he was fortunately available. Had his workout today and it looked pretty good, so we’ll see where it goes.”

Fromm made an immediate impact at Georgia as he was named SEC Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American in 2017. It was the 2017 season when Fromm took over for an injured Jacob Eason and led the Bulldogs to an SEC Championship and an appearance in the national championship game. Fromm then led Georgia to SEC Championship appearances in 2018 and 2019 but lost to Alabama and LSU, respectively. In his three seasons at Georgia, Fromm threw for 7,236 yards, 78 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
