Penei Sewell is one of the most athletic offensive linemen in the National Football League. On Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, he pulled off a rare feat, reeling in a reception from Jared Goff to lift the Detroit Lions to victory.

Check out the catch below as he hauls in the reception for the first down to ice the game for the Lions.

It will be interesting to see if the Lions use that play more in the future. Their offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, has attracted plenty of attention from around the league for a reason. He’s really, really good at what he does. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see him land some head coaching offers this offseason.

The Lions won the game, 34-23. Detroit continued to demonstrate that they’ve got some of the league’s most exciting young superstars. They’re still a number of pieces away from being an elite team, but few teams in the league can play as exciting a brand of football as the Detroit Lions. They’ve won five of their last six games and currently sit at 6-7 overall.

Penei Sewell has been an elite prospect for quite some time

It was an impressive display of athleticism from Sewell, but it’s certainly not outside of his realm of possibilities. He was an elite NFL Draft prospect for a reason. It’s still impressive to watch him run down the line of scrimmage like that.

At his pro day, Sewell ran a 5.09 40-yard dash, which is pretty ridiculous considering the fact that he’s 6-foot-6, 325 pounds. He was selected No. 7 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. Sewell became the highest drafted lineman in Oregon school history. He was the second-highest offensive linemen ever selected by the Lions. Lomas Brown was the highest they’ve ever selected an offensive lineman–he was drafted No. 6 overall in the 1985 NFL Draft.
