Detroit and the state of Michigan have come to love Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Detroit Lions franchise receiver and central figure in the franchise’s resurgence. His older brother, Equanimeous St. Brown, though, has not earned such graces.

And when he decided to take aim at the city of Detroit on a recent episode of a podcast he does with his younger brother, Equanimeous drew the attention of plenty as he claimed people wouldn’t choose to move there of their own volition. That included getting the attention of the social media managers for the city Twitter account.

“Man, we know it’s hard when baby bro is outshining you. But you don’t have to take that out on us, Equanimeous,” the city said, quote tweeting a clip from the podcast where he talked down on the Motor City.

It also shared an array of data and talking points that speak to the resurgence of the city after down years in the wake of the 2008 housing market crash, including that the population of the city grew over the last decade for the first time in six decades, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Detroit is now the 26th most populous city in the United States, as the city pointed out. Equanimeous quote tweeted back, saying hopefully Detroit could crack the Top 25.

Then came the burn that ended the back-and-forth, pointing out who is doing the moving between the brothers — and the implications as to why.

“Hopefully next year you don’t have to move to another city,” the city Twitter account said, quote tweeting his Top 25 crack.

Unlike his brother, a fourth round pick who quickly became one of the best wideouts in the NFL and a cornerstone for the turnaround in Detroit, Equanimeous was a sixth round pick by the Green Bay Packers, spending four seasons there before a two-year stint with the Chicago Bears and is now on the practice squad for the New Orleans Saints. He’s been an effective player at times in his various stops, but has never done much to move the needle the various franchises he’s played for.

As for the third, middle St. Brown brother, Osiris St. Brown, he’s not a regular on the podcast, as he’s not an active NFL player. But he’s certainly learned from afar to think carefully and tread lightly when airing his opinions out on the City of Detroit.
