Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane left the team’s game against the New England Patriots with an apparent injury.

The injury came on a run in the first quarter when Achane took a hard hit along the sideline. He didn’t get up from the hit and was quickly attended to by the Dolphins trainers along the sideline. The broadcast later saw Achane entering the injury tent.

On the play, De’Von Achane appeared to hit the ground hard. The Miami Dolphins later announced that he was being evaluated for a concussion.

Initially, Achane was ruled questionable to return to the game. However, he was later ruled out for the game. How he responded to concussion protocol was a key in that decision.

The Fox NFL broadcast shared the update on Achane’s status.

“De’Von Achane exited the medical tent and took a very slow walk back to the Dolphins’ locker room. Officially, he has been ruled out with a concussion.”

The Miami Dolphins are now going to be relying on Raheem Mostert to handle the majority of the reps at running back. That’s likely not the ideal situation for the Dolphins, given that this is Mostert’s first game back from his own injury. He hasn’t played since Week 1 and was limited in practice this week. So, this is a major ramp-up in playing time for the veteran.

This also comes at a time when Miami has been dealing with several injuries on offense. That includes the scary concussion that starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered. With that, the Dolphins have struggled on offense to replace production from those key positions throughout the season.

Now in his second season, Achane has proven to be one of the best young running backs in the NFL. Through four games this season, he has 165 rushing yards and a touchdown. He’s also a threat in the passing game with 20 receptions for 187 yards and a touchdown.

When Achane left the game, Miami was trailing New England 7-3. He had three carries for 18 yards and a reception.

Despite how early in the season this game is coming, it’s a vital one for both teams. They both entered the game at 1-3 and on three-game losing streaks. For Miami, it’s been a massive disappointment. If either one of the two teams wants to turn things around and make a run this season, they’ll need to do it quickly.
