A few of Jordan Love‘s current and former teammates really have his back. Packers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell and former Green Bay quarterback Kurt Benkert put CBS Sports NFL analyst Adam Schein on blast for his recent criticism of Love.

“I loathe Love. I despise Love. Everyone looks great during preseason practices except for, apparently, Jordan Love, who, by his own admission, has struggled,” Schein spouted. “Jordan Love can’t play football. Simple as that. …

“Defensive players are calling out the offense. Jordan Love can’t do a damn thing. … This is gonna be a predictable disaster with Jordan Love in Green Bay.”

Campbell and Benkert couldn’t let those comments slide.

“Ain’t no way you just got on here with that baggy ass Steve Harvey suit and them thick ass dollar tree glasses and disrespected my QB by saying he can’t play football,” Campbell wrote on Twitter. “He only has one career start let him play at least half a season before you open your big dumb ass mouth.”

Benkert wasn’t quite as wordy, but echoed a similar message.

“When you’re irrelevant like (Adam Schein) you have to talk louder to make people believe the wack s*** you say,” he said.

Without question, Love has some giant shoes to fill. Nobody really expects the young quarterback to pick up where Aaron Rodgers left off. There’s an understandable learning curve.

To say Love “can’t play football,” is a step (or ten) too far. Campbell and Benkert were willing to say as much on social media in response to Schein’s comments.

Packers in transition with Jordan Love at QB

The expectation is the Green Bay will use the 2023 season as a rebuilding year. With several new faces — including Love at quarterback — it could take time for this team to jell. That doesn’t mean it won’t be fun.

Offensive tackle David Bakhtiari says it’s an “exciting” time for the franchise.

“It’s a big question mark,” Bakhtiari said, via Ryan Wood of USA Today. “There’s a lot of guys who haven’t played a lot of football. It’s a new look, and that’s exciting. Because you don’t really know what to expect. When teams scout us… how much film are they looking at?”

So, even guys on the team are expecting some sort of rough patch for the season ahead. But does a rocky season mean Love can’t develop into Green Bay’s next franchise quarterback?

Absolutely not.
