DeVonta Smith, A.J. Brown injury update: Thursday practice status for injured Eagles WRs
The Philadelphia Eagles wideout room continues to be the walking wounded, as neither A.J. Brown nor DeVonta Smith practiced with the team on Thursday, according to Tim McManus. Brown has a hamstring injury and Smith has been dealing with a concussion.
Smith suffered the concussion recently, taking a massive hit in a win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 3. Brown has been out since prior to Week 2 with his hamstring injury and continues to be held out as he rehabs.
The Eagles play at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that it would not be likely for Smith to play as he was still in the concussion protocol. Schefter also said on Wednesday that neither was likely to play this Sunday.

“Neither player is practicing today, and let’s keep in mind that the Eagles have a bye week next week,” Schefter said. “So if you don’t play either A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith this week, that would mean that they would have two weeks to rest up. DeVonta Smith suffered that big hit on Sunday against the Saints that knocked him out. He’s in concussion protocol right now. Usually players don’t bounce back from protocol in time to play the next week, we’ll see whether Smith can.”
In three games this season, Smith has 21 catches, 239 yards, one touchdown and 11.4 yards per catch.
In his lone performance of the season, Brown had five catches for 119 yards and a touchdown.
If neither of Smith and Brown take the field Sunday, the Eagles will likely lean heavily on running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Dallas Goedert. Barkley is averaging more than 100 yards per game and scored four touchdowns in three weeks, while catching 10 passes for 53 yards and another touchdown. And Goedert is second on the team in targets with 20 and tied for Smith with a team-leading 239 receiving yards. Goedert has yet to find the end zone in 2024, though.
