Devonta Smith becomes first player drafted out of Alabama to score Super Bowl touchdown

It’s been an absolute demolition from start to finish in Super Bowl LIX, with the Philadelphia Eagles blitzing the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans. And receiver Devonta Smith was all too ready to cash in.
The former Alabama superstar and Heisman Trophy winner got going late in the third quarter, hooking up with quarterback Jalen Hurts for a back-breaking score.
He became the first player drafted out of Alabama to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
Devonta Smith got behind the defense and Hurts dropped in a picture-perfect pass into the breadbasket for a touchdown. That extended the Philadelphia lead to 34-0 with 2:40 remaining in the fourth quarter.
So, barring an absolutely Herculean comeback, Philadelphia will win the Super Bowl.
Devonta Smith put together a very strong regular season, recording 68 catches for 833 yards and a career-best eight touchdowns. In the postseason he had added 12 catches for 121 yards before Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Chris Jones injured for Chiefs
Very little was going right for the Chiefs on Sunday night in the Super Bowl, and the woes continued with an injury to star defensive lineman Chris Jones.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones left Super Bowl LIX after suffering an injury in the third quarter. Jones went down with the Philadelphia Eagles driving and threatening to score again midway through the quarter.
Jones was seen grabbing at his right knee as trainers rushed over to check him out. A timeout was then called as he made his way off the field to be evaluated further.
With Devonta Smith and the Eagles cruising, getting Jones back would be a big boost for the Chiefs. But it might just be too little too late anyway. Time was running out for Kansas City, which trailed 34-6 entering the fourth quarter.
