The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to clash on Sunday in the biggest game of the 2024-2025 NFL season, the Super Bowl. The Eagles have been concerned with a number of injuries leading up to the game, with one of the biggest being to their star wideout, DeVonta Smith. He’s been nursing a hamstring injury and in Friday’s practice report, he got in a limited practice. The news was relayed on Friday evening by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

His status will be an important one to monitor leading up to kick off on Sunday. As will be the status of Jalen Carter, who had been dealing with an illness earlier in the week. But Carter got in full practices on Thursday and Friday, which bodes well for him on Sunday.

More on the Eagles vs. Chiefs Super Bowl matchup

Super Bowl LIX is set. Following the results from conference championship weekend, the Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Feb. 9. The game will be played at Caesars Superdome, the home of the New Orleans Saints.

The Eagles advanced to the NFL’s championship game after a 55-23 victory over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship. Eagles running back Saquon Barkley rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns, and quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for 246 yards and one touchdown in the win.

The Chiefs will play in their third consecutive Super Bowl after defating the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship 32-29. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 245 yards and one touchdown while rushing for 43 yards and two scores.

The Eagles are playing in their second Super Bowl in three seasons. In Super Bowl LVII, Philadelphia lost to the Kansas City 38-35.

After this year’s NFC Championship, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni praised quarterback Jalen Hurts for his play. “First and foremost everything good in our life comes from God, so thank God for that,” Sirianni said. “How about our quarterback? How about our quarterback?!? He’s a stud. I knew he was going to play that way. I knew it. Don’t doubt him. All he does is win.”

“Well we just took it a play at a time,” Hurts said. “I can’t do any of those things without the guys around me, the preparation we put in. What a run it’s been. We’ve got to finish it.”

A big reason the Eagles are playing in the Super Bowl is Barkley. In his first season in Philadelphia, the former Penn State star rushed for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns in 16 regular season games. He is the ninth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season.

“I can’t lie, it’s amazing,” Barkley said during an interview with FOX after the Dallas Cowboys game in December, per NFL.com. “It was fun being out there with those guys, and to be able to do that. I wouldn’t be able to do it without the O-line, the wide receivers, the tight end. At the end of the day, the most important thing was to be able to get the win and clinch the division.”
