DK Metcalf forcefully shoves Ahkello Witherspoon out of nowhere
DK Metcalf might win the award for “worst sport” of Week 1 in the NFL. The Seahawks receiver might have taken Sunday’s loss a little too personally, resulting in a blind-side shove of Rams defensive back Ahkello Witherspoon.
With less than five minutes remaining in the game and Seattle training Los Angeles 27-13, Metcalf randomly shoved Witherspoon when he wasn’t looking. It sent the defender to the ground and resulted in the receiver getting flagged for taunting.
It was just a bizarre moment at that stage in the game. Clearly, Metcalf had some built-up frustration, but that wasn’t really the right way to handle it.
The Rams would eventually tack on a field goal to make the final score 30-13.
Metcalf ended the first game with three catches for 47 yards and a touchdown. Witherspoon finished the game with two tackles, both solo stops.
Football is a dangerous sport as is. That type of action could lead to serious injury. It was especially uncalled for since the act was so far away from the play.
Rams pummel Seahawks in opener
Some wondered what the Los Angeles might look like without Cooper Kupp in the lineup. The wide receiver was placed on the injured reserve list, meaning he’ll miss the first four weeks of the 2023 season. A hamstring injury will keep him sidelined during the early portion of the season.
But on Sunday, the Rams looked just fine without him. The passing attack produced at a pretty high level.

Matthew Stafford threw for 334 yards while completing 24-of-38 passes in the game. Receivers Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua both totaled 119 receiving yards in the contest. Atwell hauled in six passes while Nacua finished with 10 receptions.
Running back Kyren Williams accounted for two of Los Angeles’ touchdowns, also rushing for 52 yards. Cam Akers scored the teams other touchdown.
Coming off a rough year in 2022, the Rams hoped to put together a strong performance to open the 2023 campaign. Mission accomplished.
Seattle, on the other hand, has a lot of work to do. The Seahawks ended Sunday’s game with just 180 yards of total offense. That’s not going to win a lot of football games. Maybe that’s why Metcalf felt it was necessary to start shoving random players on the field.
