The Miami Dolphins have signed defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand following a workout Saturday, per Alain Poupart of Sports Illustrated.

The Dolphins released undrafted free agent defensive lineman Anthony Montalvo as a corresponding move.

Hand, the former Alabama standout, spent the 2022 season with the Tennessee Titans, appearing in one game — Week 1 against the New York Giants. The 27-year-old suffered a torn quad during that game, and was placed on injured reserve, thus ending his campaign prematurely.

Hand spent the previous four seasons with the Detroit Lions after being selected in the fourth-round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He appeared in 29 games (11 starts), recording 52 tackles (39 solo) with 3.0 sacks and three forced fumbles. Hand missed 30 games with injuries, notably opening the 2021 season out of the Lions’ lineup for seven games due to a groin injury.

Hand was a highly touted recruit in 2014 coming out of Woodbridge (VA) High School. He ranked as the No. 1 prospect regardless of position according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. This resulted in offers from college football powers such as Ohio State, Notre Dame and, of course, Alabama.

He totaled an impressive 71 tackles (14.5 for loss), nine sacks and one forced fumble in his Crimson Tide career. Hand started eight games during his rookie season with the Lions, finishing with 27 tackles (four for loss) and 3.0 sacks. He missed the final three games of that year after suffering a knee injury.

“Surgery went well,” Ramsey tweeted. “To my teammates & fans, thank you for the prayers and support!! I promise I will attack this rehab and be back stronger than ever… This will just part of the greater story down the stretch! Adversity is opportunity! God is so great! FIN5 UP!”

Ramsey, 28, was carted off the field during Thursday’s practice after injuring his knee. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Ramsey will be sidelined until December. That means that Ramsey, whom Miami acquired earlier this offseason from the Los Angeles Rams, will miss the majority of the 2023 regular season.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel praised Ramsey for his attitude in response to the injury.

“What was the most amazing thing about the whole thing was the way Jalen responded. He spoke to the team yesterday and it really moved a lot of people,” McDaniel said. “He first let everybody know how much he appreciated this team and how this team has accepted him. He’s been in the league for a little bit… He knows what we’re doing here… His opinion is special for his position group not to waver, and exuded all the confidence he has in that position group.

“One of the things that he said that was real cool for everybody was he told all his teammates not to worry. Not to feel sorry for him. He’s going on whatever timeline the doctors give him. He’s going after that timeline and trying to flex that he’ll beat it.”
