Former President Donald Trump is, in fact, planning to attend Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, according to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.
Security personnel are working through the plan and drivers have been notified additional safety measures could be in place for anyone entering the garage area, Pockrass noted.
Trump, 77, will become the first president to attend a race at Charlotte. He notably attended the 2020 Daytona 500 during the final year of his presidency. Trump served as the grand marshal for the race, delivering the most famous words in motorsports, “Gentlemen, start your engines.” Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee in the 2024 election, was in Charlotte last month and held a campaign rally in Wilmington soon thereafter.
Donald Trump’s presence at Charlotte ‘should not impact’ Kyle Larson’s arrival from Indy 500
Trump’s presence at Charlotte isn’t expected to impact Kyle Larson’s arrival from Indianapolis, where he is set to start fifth in the 108th Running of the Indy 500.
“My understanding is it should not impact overall ingress/egress nor Larson helicoptering in,” Pockrass reported.

Following the conclusion of the race, Larson will jet over to Charlotte to race in the Coca-Cola 600. Green flag for the Indy 500 will wave at approximately 12:45 p.m. ET, while the Coca-Cola 600 begins at approximately 6 p.m. Larson is attempting to become just the fifth driver to finish the Indy-Charlotte Double and the second to run all 1,100 miles. Tony Stewart is the only driver to do it, finishing sixth in the 2001 Indy 500 before jetting over to Charlotte and finishing third in the Coca-Cola 600.
Whether or not Larson gets it done could depend on the weather. The current forecast calls for a 40-80% chance of rain in Indianapolis this weekend, as well as a 30-40% chance of rain in Charlotte.
Larson admitted he’s growing concerned with the prospect of having to pick one race over the other.
“You can have all these plans and backup plans and backup plans for the backup plan,” Larson said Thursday. “But you just can’t really do anything or react until it’s kind of the moment. That’s what’s a little bit stressful.”
