Steelers cornerback Cory Trice made the most of his opportunity Sunday after entering the game following an injury to Donte Jackson. Immediately after he entered, Trice came away with an interception on Broncos quarterback Bo Nix in the end zone to rob Denver of a chance to score.

It marked the first career interception for the second-year player out of Purdue. Pittsburgh would go on to score a field goal on the ensuing drive to extend its lead to 13-0. You can view the play from Trice below.

Thankfully, the injury to Jackson ended up not being of too serious a nature and he returned to the game a few moments later. He would go on to record three tackles on the afternoon, including one for loss.

Trice was a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft but was place on injured reserve before the season began. He made his pro debut with the Steelers in Week 1 of this year as he played seven snaps and did not record any stats.

The cornerback finished Sunday with two tackles and one pass defended in addition to the interception. The Steelers went on to win by a score of 13-6 to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

With how he performed Sunday, Cory Trice has made a case for himself to receive more reps as the year goes on. At the very least, Pittsburgh knows it can count on him to step up in the event of injury.

The Steelers move on to face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3 as they’ll look for a 3-0 start. Kick time for that game is set for 1 p.m. ET next Sunday in Pittsburgh.
