Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Donte Jackson and the Chargers have reached an agreement on a 2-year, $13 million deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal was negotiated by agent Drew Rosenhaus, per the report.

Jackson played in 15 games for the Steelers last season, totaling 38 tackles and five interceptions for Pittsburgh. He previously spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers.

His final season in Carolina season was a comeback year for him, as he suffered a torn Achilles in 2022. The former LSU star went on IR after nine games last season but played 16 this year as the Panthers won just two games. Despite making a full recovery from his injury, the 2023 season was his first in the league without an interception. He tallied 59 tackles with one forced fumble, however.

A second-round pick out of Baton Rouge in 2018, Jackson has been a starter with the Panthers ever since. They selected him as No. 55 overall after he was a second-team All-American for the Tigers in 2017. He has recorded 340 tackles, 19 interceptions and 54 passes defended in seven seasons in the NFL.

Now moving to his third team in three years, Jackson will look to provide an instant impact to the Chargers’ defense over the next couple of years.

The Chargers finished the 2024-25 NFL season 11-6 overall and second in the conference behind the Kansas City Chiefs. Los Angeles’ season ended in the Wild Card round of the playoffs in a 32-12 loss to the Houston Texans — a team which has also made headlines during Monday’s free agency frenzy.

Texans trade OL Laremy Tunsin to Commanders in blockbuster deal

The Houston Texans are trading offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. This a big addition for Washington, a team that reached the NFC Championship last season.

Rapoport said the Commanders are also receiving a 2026 fourth-round pick with Tunsil. The Texans will receive a 2025 third-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-round pick.

Laremy Tunsil has been with the Texans since 2019 after spending his first three seasons with the Miami Dolphins. During his time in Houston, Tunsil was named to the Pro Bowl five times, including the 2024 season. Tunsil was one of four Texans players named to the Pro Bowl last season, with the other three being cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver Nico Collins.

One Texans player who is going to miss Tunsil is quarterback CJ Stroud. Tunsil’s play on the offensive line helped Stroud win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2023.
