World famous pop star Drake is no stranger to making big sports bets and supporting teams — which have an associated curse, depending on who you ask — and Super Bowl LVIII has drawn a massive wager from one of pop culture’s biggest figures. The stakes: $1,150,000.

And Drake isn’t even the biggest pop star associated with the game, as the Kansas City Chiefs and their association with Taylor Swift, via her relationship with tight end Travis Kelce, have become a major storyline of the NFL season. Whether it’s the power of the Swifties or something else, Drake ended up picking the slight-underdog Chiefs to beat the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

“I can’t bet against the swifties,” Drake said in the caption of his Instagram post showing off the bet.

The supposed “Drake Curse” isn’t strictly tied to sports betting, but that a team Drake begins to support tends to start struggling. There are ample anecdotal examples of this holding true, but also notable exceptions to whatever curse might exist, such as the Toronto Raptors winning the 2019 NBA Championship.

For his own wallet, Drake would like that curse not to show up this weekend. While he can probably afford to part ways with the million-plus dollars, he’s also set to win nearly $2.5 million if the Chiefs do win.

And perhaps Swift pulling for the Chiefs to win is the antidote to the Drake Curse.

Some believe the Chiefs have used Swift to their advantage

Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young is the latest to weigh in, giving his thoughts on their relationship during an appearance on the “This is Football” podcast Thursday. Young offered a new perspective, saying that Swift’s presence at Chiefs games “put a burden” on the team early in the season. But now, Young said, their relationship has turned into a “superpower” for the Chiefs, who caught fire in the postseason and are going for Super Bowl No. 3 in the last five seasons.

“Taylor Swift coming to the games and dating Travis [Kelce] put a huge burden on the team,” Young said. “It wasn’t anyone’s fault. It’s just the nature of the whole thing. It’s a distraction. And you could see the weight of that in the first half of the season. What I saw toward the end of the season is now an ownership of that distraction to where it’s now a superpower.”
