Dwyane Wade celebrates Noah Lyles Olympic 100-meter dash win: 'And he got his nails painted, say something'
Noah Lyles took home his first-ever Olympic Gold Medal on Sunday, winning the 100-meter dash. As tight of a finish in the history of the event, the American somehow crossed the finish line first. Second place, Kishane Thompson of Jamaica, was 0.005 seconds behind Lyles in a race that produced a true photo finish.
Plenty of people back in the United States have celebrated Lyles’ victory, including former NBA star Dwayne Wade. Currently in Paris broadcasting basketball, Wade has been watching a lot of the big-time events unfold in the French capital, arguably none more exciting than the 100-meter dash.
He took to social media to show his support of Lyles, saying “And he got his nails painted, say something.” In the photo Wade quoted, you can see Lyles has his nails painted red, white, and blue.
You can check out the full tweet from Wade here.
Some prominent male sports figures have painted their nails in recent times with Lyles being the most recent. Now-Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams did as such while with both the Oklahoma Sooners and USC Trojans. Former Duke guard Jared McCain does as well and likely will continue after being drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers. Wade made sure to state his opinion on a matter some people on social media get upset about.
Painted nails or no painted nails, it has no effect on what Lyles was able to accomplish. He’s the fastest man in the world.

Noah Lyles wins Olympic Gold Medal in 100-meter dash
On Sunday, American sprinter Noah Lyles re-established himself as the fastest man in the world, winning the 100-meter dash at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It’s Lyles’ first Olympic gold medal in the event, succeeding Italy’s Marcell Jacobs who took home first place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Lyles posted a 9.79-second time in the event — five-thousandths of a second faster than Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson, who finished second in the event. United States’ Fred Kerley followed closely behind, securing a bronze medal.
Lyles is the first American to win gold in the 100m race since Justin Gatlin in 2004. Lyles entered the 2024 Paris Olympics as the favorite in the event after winning the 2023 World Championship. However, following a subpar lead-up to the final, the narrative began to shift.
Lyles blocked out the noise and delivered a single message after his victory to all the viewers back home, cheering him on: “America, I told you. I got this.”
