Eagles announce plans to wear famous Kelly Green throwback uniforms vs. Cowboys, Jaguars
The Eagles are again throwing it back to the days of Kelly Green, with the team announcing Friday that it plans to wear its retro uniforms for two games this season, including against the Cowboys.
Philadelphia made the announcement via a “save the date” social media post Friday morning. The Eagles will wear throwbacks, Nov. 3, for their Sunday Night Football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. You always need a fancy ‘fit for the biggest night of television. Then they’ll don them again, Dec. 29, against their arch-rival Cowboys. Again, cool looks are needed for the arch rivals right before New Year’s.
Eagles wore vintage uniforms twice last season
Philadelphia relaunched the Kelly Green uniforms last season, also wearing them twice to the delight of their fans. If you’re an old-school fan, who used to watch games at Veterans Stadium while cheering on Randall Cunningham or Reggie White, then you know this look.
The Eagles wore them in the glossy 80s through the early 90s, from Ronald Reagan to Bill Clinton.
There are other subtle details about these Eagles throwbacks. The jersey will feature the logo the team used from 1987-1995. The pants are a light shade of silver. Until last season’s throwback appearances, the last time the Eagles wore the silver pants was 1995.
The Eagles wore the same look in 2010. But that was for a single, special moment as the franchise honored the 50th anniversary of Philadelphia’s NFL championship team.

Philadelphia used to wear black uniforms for alternative look
The Eagles first entertained the idea of the Kelly Green throwback in 2012. But it wouldn’t work because the NFL allowed only one helmet. The league changed the rules in 2022.
Now, the NFL lets teams use as many as four different uniforms a season. That’s a home and away jersey, plus two alternative looks. Before Kelly Green, the Eagles used black jerseys for an alternate look.
The Eagles won both games wearing their retro looks last season. The new look excites the players and fires up the fans. And then the team can sell the uniforms to fans who appreciate team history. It’s a win-win, right?
Fans can start the season countdown clock. The Eagles report to preseason training camp July 23. So the regular season is getting closer. Jersey news will get you through the days between now and then.
