There’s not much Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders can agree on ahead of Sunday’s NFC Championship Game matchup. But there is one thing, and it remains true for both fanbases 365 days a year.

Two words: “Dallas sucks.” Eagles fans proudly fly the banner during tailgates outside Lincoln Financial Field but this time, they joined Commanders fans in chanting it in unison.

One could say that the Cowboys live rent free in the minds of Eagles and Commanders fans. On the other hand, both NFC East teams are one win away from a Super Bowl appearance, something Dallas hasn’t been able to say for the last three decades. The 30-year NFC Championship Game drought is the longest streak going among NFC teams.

In that time, the Eagles and New York Giants have combined to win three Super Bowls in six appearances. While the Commanders haven’t been this far since their last Super Bowl victory in 1991, they’re there now in year one under the new regime led by head coach Dan Quinn. Any guesses as to where Quinn coached prior to Washington?

Of course, there’s also Jayden Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner who has already put together arguably the best rookie season in NFL history — regardless of Sunday’s outcome. Perhaps things will be different in Dallas under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer but for now, it’s all about Philadelphia and Washington when it comes to the NFC East and the conference as a whole.

And speaking of Daniels, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio knows his unit will have their hands full against him.

“He’s a young quarterback by birth certificate, not by the tape,” Fangio said earlier this week. “The guy is playing extremely well. You can tell how much they think he’s playing so good by the volume of their offense and the things they trust him to do. He’s come through for them in a big way and he’s tough to handle.”
