Eagles TE Dallas Goedert calls Jalen Hurts a top 2 QB in the NFL
There aren’t too many quarterbacks Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert is taking over Jalen Hurts.
In fact, that’s underselling it quite a bit. During a recent appearance on the “Pardon My Take” podcast, Goedert said that only the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes compares to the runner-up of the 2022 AP NFL MVP Award.
“I think Jalen has to be at the top,” Goedert said, via NBC Sports. “I think he should be top-3, top-2. It’s hard to take anything away from Patrick. You go down the list and there’s probably 10 quarterbacks that could be in the top-5. Depends on what fan base you are. But personally speaking, Jalen is top-2.”
Hurts, the Eagles’ second-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma, had the first Pro Bowl season of his career in 2022, emerging as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. He ended the year with 3,701 passing yards with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions on 66.5% passing. The third-year quarterback added 760 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.
Hurts led the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII, where they were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-35. Hurts put on an MVP-worthy performance in defeat, completing 27-of-38 passes for 304 yards and a score. He rushed for 70 yards and three touchdowns. Philadelphia rewarded him with a five-year, $255 million extension in April, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time.

Jalen Hurts hungry as ever following Super Bowl defeat
Coming up short of winning a Super Bowl, the 24-year-old is as hungry as ever. Discussing what motivates him most, Hurts revealed this past week that it’s creating separation between him and the player he was yesterday.
“Everybody aspires to be the best and works to be the best, but ultimately you have to find some separation,” Hurts said on the “AP Pro Football Podcast.” “And that’s the thrill. There’s a thrill in not being satisfied and there’s a thrill in being on this journey, and I have embraced that.
“I love this game and I know my purpose within this game. I truly just want to be intentional. … So every day I just try to be the best that I can be and that is not based off of external factors. Those things don’t matter. You just try and control what you can.”
