Eagles WR AJ Brown is still angry with Super Bowl referees
A controversial penalty in Super Bowl LVII prevented the Philadelphia Eagles from taking home the Lombardi Trophy. And while many believe the right call was made, receiver AJ Brown still isn’t over it.
In a video clip with YouTuber Deestroying, Brown made a mention of the controversial defensive holding call made late in the Super Bowl. Eagles cornerback James Bradberry was flagged for holding Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.
The penalty allowed Kansas City to milk the clock, setting up a game-winning field goal to claim a second Super Bowl title in four years.
“All the time, but refs don’t call it. They never call it. They just called it during the Super Bowl, on that one play,” Brown said.
Brown might still be upset but Bradberry took full responsibility for the penalty following the game. He said officials made the right call.
“I pulled on his jersey. They called it. I was hoping they would let it ride,” Bradberry said after the game.
Discussions about the controversial penalty from the Super Bowl didn’t end when the game concluded. Smith-Schuster trolled Bradberry on Valentine’s Day, just a few days later.
Smith-Schuster posted a Valentine with Bradberry’s picture and the text reading, “I’ll hold you when it matters most.” Brown quickly jumped to his teammate’s defense.

“First off congratulations,” Brown wrote on Twitter in response. “Y’all deserve it. This is lame. You was on the way out the league before Mahomes resurrected your career on your 1 year deal Tik-Tok boy. He admitted that he grabbed you but don’t act like your like that or ever was. But congratulations again!”
Eagles DB James Bradberry has moved on from penalty
It’s understandable why Brown would still be upset by the call. It’s incredibly difficult to win a Super Bowl. There are no guarantees that Philadelphia will get another opportunity.
But Bradberry — the one guilty of committing the penalty — has moved on. He doesn’t allow one play to distract him from his goals.
“I try to live my life with a DB mindset,” he told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “A play’s going to happen. Good play, bad play — you’ve got to move on to the next one. That’s how I really thought about it. …
“The best thing we can do is just forget about what we did last year and move on to this year.”
Philadelphia opens the 2023 NFL regular season against the New England Patriots on Sunday, Sept. 10. The Eagles will play the Chiefs in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII on Monday, Nov. 20.
