One of the most famous par threes in all of golf resides at TPC Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. Hole No. 16 is known for some of the rowdiest and most raucous crowds in all of golf at the Waste Management Open each year. And on Friday evening, Emiliano Grillo drilled a hole-in-one, setting off a massive beer shower and celebration.

Grillo needed that hole in one, because he barely made the cut, finishing 2-under par after his first two rounds. The Argentinian carded a 71 and a 69 in his first two days at TPC Scottsdale. Hitting a slam dunk hole in one like that is truly a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, even for somebody as talented as a PGA Tour golfer.

Thomas Detry of Belgium currently leads the Waste Management Open. He carded a 64 in Round 2 to put him at 12-under for the event. Alex Smalley carded a 65 to sit at 10-under par after two days. Michael Kim is also tied with Smalley at 10-under, for a tie for second place. Then there’s Tom Kim, who sits in a tie for fourth place at 9-under par after he carded a 66 on the second day. Jordan Spieth and Christian Bezuidenhout are also tied for fourth place at 9-under par.

Some other notable golfers at the Waste Management Open. Scottie Scheffler currently sits at 7-under par. He sits in a tie for 12th place after two days. In the first two rounds, he carded a 69 and a 66. Phenom Nick Dunlap made the cut at 2-under par. He fired two rounds of 70 to just make the cut on Friday.

Florida State junior Luke Clanton barely missed the cut, missing a birdie putt on the final hole. He would have earned his PGA Tour card, but the future is incredibly bright for the FSU star, who still is an amateur golfer. In July of 2024, Clanton became the first amateur since 1958 to finish in the Top 10 in back-to-back PGA Tour events.
