New York Giants fans had to watch Saquon Barkley hoist the Lombardi Trophy Sunday night as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
And immediately following Philadelphia’s 40-22 Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, the fanbase watched as the Empire State Building shined green for the rest of the night. Those in charge of the National Historic Landmark didn’t want to do it but did it anyways.
The Eagles approved.
“Told you, green looks good on you,” Philadelphia’s social team wrote on X.
Giants — and Jets fans as well — certainly hope that one day soon, the Empire State Building will shine their colors in the aftermath of a Super Bowl victory. But this one belonged to the Eagles, who were dominant in claiming their second Super Bowl in franchise history, led by a standout effort from their No. 1 ranked defense. Without sending a single blitz, Philadelphia sacked quarterback Patrick Mahomes six times across 42 dropbacks.
Jalen Hurts delivers MVP performance in Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory
Quarterback Jalen Hurts delivered his finest performance yet on the biggest stage. He completed 17-of-22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, adding 72 rushing yards and an additional score. Hurts was named Super Bowl LIX MVP.

“The criticism just blows my mind because I think he’s [Hurts] so special. And he’s won so many games and works his butt off,” head coach Nick Sirianni said after the game. “He just continues to get better and can block out everything, focus on the task at hand of getting better. And put himself in position to win each week. He does a great job of that, and he had an unbelievable game today when we needed him to.”
As for Sirianni, he’s a long way removed from calls for his firing as recent as last season. Since taking over for Doug Pederson after the 2020 season, all Sirianni and the Eagles have done is win. Sirianni is 48-20 in the regular season, the fifth-highest winning percentage among head coaches in NFL history. But coaches are ultimately judged by their postseason success, and Sirianni will now have a ring to show off in addition to a Super Bowl appearance in 2022.
