Pat McAfee slams football fans who are mad about Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift dating Travis Kelce has become a major storyline during the 2023-24 NFL season. Swift has been attending Kelce’s games for much of the year, and the TV camera always seems to find her.
NFL fans appear to be split on whether or not Swift should be getting as much attention as she is. ESPN’s Pat McAfee made his stance clear during his show on Monday.
“The most successful woman on earth right now happens to be dating the greatest tight end of all time, who is on the current dynasty. Why’s everybody so mad about it?” Pat McAfee said. “I’m sick of people being mad about it. What are we even talking about?”
Taylor Swift first started dating and attending Travis Kelce’s games back in September. McAfee said that at the time, it was fair to question how serious they were about each other.
“Now at the beginning, I could see it,” McAfee said. “‘Oh, she’s releasing a movie? Oh, he’s on 14 commercials? Oh, we’re getting worked right now? The NFL… shoving it down our throats. Every commercial – him. Every game – her.’ I could see that.”

However, four months later the two are still together and their relationship is clearly serious.
Swift celebrated on the field with Kelce and the Chiefs following Sunday’s win in the AFC Championship Game. She is also planning to attend the Super Bowl on Feb. 10, according to Ian Rapoport.
“Did you see them after the game yesterday? They are actual love. I am so happy that the world got to see that,” McAfee said. “From the very beginning I thought to myself, ‘These two might be perfect for each other.’ And then as you see it kind of unravel, I think he thanked her, obviously, for being a big part of the run. They were kissing. She got a chance to give him a big hug with his pads on. She gave a speech. She gave a shoutout to Andy Reid. She dapped up Tony Romo. It’s like Taylor’s a part of the football world now.”
McAfee predicts Taylor Swift will be shown plenty of times during the Super Bowl, and he’s just fine with that. He feels that Swift becoming a big part of the NFL season is a positive for everyone.
“This is good news, not bad news,” McAfee said. “A lot of people are going to say, ‘How many times is CBS going to show Taylor Swift at that Super Bowl?’ Well, she is a global phenomenon. She’s selling out stadiums in all these countries in which it’s their first game they’re watching every single year. I assume they’re going to show Taylor a lot.”
