ESPN draft expert reveals NFL comparison for Myles Murphy
Former Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy is likely to be picked somewhere in the Top 15 if not Top 10 on draft night in a few months at the 2023 NFL Draft. And ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller offered a comparison to another former Top 10 pick: Bradley Chubb.
With a thicker build and elite productivity against the run along with his pass-rushing ability, Miller sees Murphy in a similar mold to the former No. 5 overall pick. It began with his immediate production at Clemson.
“Murphy produced from Day 1 at Clemson, working into the rotation as a true freshman. He filled the stat sheet with 18 sacks and 31 tackles for loss over three seasons while developing rare speed and power. The 6-5, 275-pound Murphy is widely expected to run in the low-4.6s in the 40-yard dash at the combine, too. NFL teams are excited about his pass-rush tools and upside, given his rare burst, power and agility,” Miller wrote.
Playing at a very similar size and in the same college division at Murphy, incidentally, Chubb put up 54.5 tackles for loss and 25 sacks across 38 games during his final three years. While Murphy’s overall production never quite matched that, it’s possibly because he’s played on a Clemson team with a number of other potential first-round defenders on the front seven.

Along with his sack and TFL numbers, Murphy also forced six forced fumbles in his career and five passes defended by batting the ball down at the line.
With top-level college production and an impressive and versatile skillset, Murphy is one of the most intriguing defensive line prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft. And though Chubb hasn’t become an anchor piece of an NFL defense, he’s been a good productive player in Denver and then Miami in 2022.
Murphy could certainly fulfill more of his upside, but based on the comparison from Miller, it seems like the floor is quite high to begin with.
