There’s a raging debate about Micah Parsons going on at ESPN’s Get Up. Should the Dallas Cowboys extend him or trade him?

It’s an honest question really because they could get a king’s ransom for the star pass rusher. Arguably one of the overall players in the league, the Cowboys wouldn’t want to be fools and get rid of him either.

So where do Dallas and Parsons go from here? ESPN’s Tim Hasselbeck called it a fair question when host Mike Greenberg pondered the traded possibility.

“I think it comes down to whether you’re factoring in that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are repeat offenders, you know,” Hasselbeck said. “I mean, the reality is, this is what they do with their star players. And so if you’re factoring that in, then maybe you look at it through a different lens, but yeah, look, I think they’re so far away from the other teams in their division that I think it’s a very reasonable argument to say, ‘Look, why don’t we do this? Why don’t we move him and start the rebuild?

“‘Because we’re really far from Jayden Daniels and the Commanders. We’re really far from what Philadelphia is doing with Jalen Hurts and so a reset and a rebuild makes sense as well.”

Fellow insider and analyst Dan Graziano countered and said an extension makes more sense because the Cowboys are, well, the Cowboys. They perceive themselves as a team that can be a top dog.

“I don’t think they perceive themselves that way,” Graziano said amid the Parsons debate. “They won seven games in a year where they lost their quarterback halfway through, and they won 12 each of the three years before that. So I think they feel like they can bounce back pretty quick. Whether they’re right or not, I don’t know, but they do delay. They do take their time with these extensions. It does cost them more, but they do tend to get them done. And my understanding is they intend to extend Micah Parsons.”

Despite Maxx Crosby’s lucrative new contract, the Cowboys reportedly aren’t changing their urgency level to get a deal done with Micah Parsons. But Tom Pelissero pointed out the reason Dallas will get calls if a deal doesn’t come to fruition soon.

Parsons finished the 2024 season with 43 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. He has had double digit sacks in each of his four NFL seasons, totaling 52.5 since coming out of Penn State.
