The New York Jets made one of the more notable moves of the offseason when they announced their intent to move on with quarterback Aaron Rodgers going forward.

That threw Rodgers’ potential future in the league into doubt once more.

The 41-year-old quarterback could choose to play another year or two or he could hang up the cleats and call it a career. In the event he remains in the league, the Los Angeles Rams have emerged as the betting favorite to be his next stop.

ESPN provided a little more color on the Aaron Rodgers situation in a quick hitter on SportsCenter on Thursday.

“Well as a contingency we mentioned the Rams,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said. “I do think there’d be something there if for some reason the Rams move on from Matthew Stafford. As our Adam Schefter alluded to, Aaron Rodgers has some relationships with people in the building for the Rams. He lives in LA in the offseason. A lot of marketing opportunities in LA. So it could certainly make some sense in that regard.”

Rumors are currently swirling about Stafford’s future in Los Angeles as the franchise weighs changes on the offensive side of the ball. Cooper Kupp announced on social media the Rams told him they plan to either trade or release him this offseason, meaning an overhaul could be on the way for Sean McVay’s group.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently reported Stafford plans to play in 2025, but he and the Rams will likely need to work out a new deal if he wants to stay in Los Angeles.

“But outside of that, and that job is not open right now, people I’ve talked to around the league do not see a natural fit for Aaron Rodgers,” Fowler said. “There just aren’t a lot of teams that make sense for him, whether there’s a team that needs a quarterback but isn’t in contention.”

The Las Vegas Raiders and the Pittsburgh Steelers are two of the other betting favorites to end up with Rodgers.

Fowler mentioned another team.

“I do look at Cleveland because I’m told from sources there that every quarterback with any sort of starter’s experience they’re going to evaluate and look at as a potential option,” Fowler said. “So you have to include Aaron Rodgers in that. But probably doesn’t make a lot of sense there.

“Las Vegas, they’re trying to restart a new culture with Pete Carroll, so there could be some options but none that are just slam-dunk, no-brainers for Aaron Rodgers at this point.”
