Jordan Love injury update: Insider reveals surprising return date for Packers QB
Green Bay Packers fans held their breath at the end of the team’s season opener when quarterback Jordan Love went down with a knee injury in the closing moments of their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. Which kept Love out of Green Bay’s Week 2 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
But NFL insider Adam Schefter reports Thursday that Love may return sooner than expected after previously being projected to miss three to four weeks due to his injury. Now tabbed as day-to-day with an opportunity to return in Green Bay’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday.
According to Schefter, a source told him that he would not be surprised if Love played this Sunday in Nashville with a 50-50 chance at best right now. With the larger point being that Love could realistically return next week for the Packers’ first divisional matchup at home against the Minnesota Vikings.
Love was diagnosed with an MCL sprain following Green Bay’s 34-29 loss to the Eagles, but returned to practice on Wednesday for the first time since Week 1 with a sleeve on his left leg when taking part in early drills. Even tabbed as hopeful for this Sunday’s matchup against the Titans by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Notably, Love signed a four-year, $220 million extension with Green Bay this offseason that makes him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. Turning things around after a slow start in his first year as a starter last season where he led Green Bay to a playoff birth and dominant win over the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wild Card.
Green Bay will likely not want to trot their franchise quarterback onto the field early in the season if he’s not fully healthy and if there’s any risk of further injury. And if Love is not available this weekend, Malik Willis will receive his second straight start for the Packers. Leading them to a 16-10 win over the Colts in Week 2.
Willis went 12-for-14 with 122 yards and one touchdown along with 41 yards on the ground against Indy in a game where the Packers leaned on the run game. With a second straight start for Willis also representing a potential revenge game after the Titans selected him in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft before trading him to the Packers in August.
