ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reveals Travis Hunter’s draft stock, floor after impressive pro day performance

Travis Hunter was the best player in all of college football this past season, and he was rewarded with the Heisman Trophy. As he moves on to the next level, the question of everyone’s mind is where will the two-way star end up landing during the 2025 NFL Draft.
There’s plenty of competition when it comes to the premier picks. As always, quarterbacks reign supreme in the NFL Draft, and 2025 should be no different — Miami’s Cam Ward and Hunter’s college teammate at Colorado in Shedeur Sanders are the top options. Additionally, Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter might ascend to the top of the draft board for a myriad of teams.
Could Hunter supersede them all, or will he have to wait a bit to hear his name called on April 24? ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shed some light on where Hunter could end up, including which teams might be interested, the position he could focus on and where the former Colorado star’s floor will be.
“The talk is that he’s probably the best player in the draft. He absolutely should go somewhere in the top three. He had the streets buzzing with just the way he was moving around, the athleticism he showed as a wide receiver,” Fowler explained, regarding Hunter’s performance at the Buffaloes’ pro day, via SportsCenter. “Talking to teams last night, they thought he was planning to seed that, ‘Hey, I want to be a wide-out.’ He didn’t do one backpedal yesterday as a cornerback, despite a lot of teams seeing him as a cornerback above a receiver.

“They’re grappling with where to play him. Can he truly be a two-way type player? Might be a situation where he’s a receiver and can be a third-down cornerback for a team. I’ve talked to some teams that look at him that way. They’re trying to figure that out, but they almost don’t care because he’s so talented and he’s going to be such a star in the league, they just want to get them. So the feeling is like, Giants at No. 3, Patriots at No. 4 would be his absolute floor right now.”
Evidently, Fowler doesn’t believe Hunter will fall outside the top four in the 2025 NFL Draft. Teams believe the hype is real for the reigning Heisman winner, and they won’t hesitate to turn in their draft card with his name on it when it’s their turn to make a pick.
All told, Travis Hunter won’t have to wait long to hear his name when April 24 rolls around. He’s a star in the making at the NFL level, and the franchises picking near the top recognize that. Whichever uniform he wears at the next level, he’ll be sure to show-out as a true unicorn in the league.
