Shedeur Sanders has been expected to be a top five pick in the 2025 NFL Draft since the evaluation process began many months ago. But now, 20 days away from the first round in Green Bay, it might no longer be a foregone conclusion.

Miami‘s Cam Ward is penciled to Tennessee at No. 1. The Cleveland Browns have to decide if they love Sanders enough to pull the trigger on the Colorado signal-caller at No. 2. The same goes for the New York Giants, who have the third overall pick. It could be a long night for Sanders if he falls out of the top three, ESPN‘s Dan Graziano said Friday on “Get Up.”

“We look at the Saints at No. 9 as a team that has a long-term question at the position. Further down, the Steelers at No. 21,” Graziano said. “Then, you start to think about if the Browns and Giants like him and just don’t like him at No. 2 or 3, they trade up from the early part of the second round back into the first to try to get him.”

Adam Schefter reveals ‘sense’ is Shedeur Sanders falls out of Top 3

Both the Browns and Giants have a long-term question at the quarterback position. Both teams, however, brought in veterans this offseason. The Browns traded for Kenny Pickett and could have additional interest in acquiring Kirk Cousins from the Atlanta Falcons. New York signed Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson.

Sanders will throw at Colorado’s Pro Day on Friday. The Browns will be there not only for him but for Buffaloes teammate Travis Hunter as well. Giants head coach Brian Daboll will notably not be in attendance.

It remains possible one of the Browns or Giants ends up taking Sanders. But as things stand, ESPN‘s Adam Schefter sees it as “unlikely.”

“Right now, Greeny – just under a month away from the NFL Draft – it sounds increasingly unlikely that Shedeur Sanders would wind up going 2 or 3,” Schefter said this week on ESPN’s NFL Draft Countdown. “That is where it would get interesting. The story of the draft then would become, where is Shedeur Sanders going to go?

“Now, I still think the Cleveland Browns are still talking about whether or not they would take Shedeur Sanders. The New York Giants are still talking about whether or not they would take Shedeur Sanders. And it’s always possible that one of these organizations can have a change in philosophy and a shift in their thinking and come around to Shedeur. But the way that I’m reading it right now is that he doesn’t figure to be either team’s pick right now through the tea leaves.”

As a senior at Colorado this past season, Sanders led the nation with a 74% completion percentage. He also totaled 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, along with just 10 interceptions on 477 pass attempts.
