A shocking report from ESPN on Thursday revealed that Washington owner Dan Snyder has allegedly “tracked” other team owners, and even NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. ESPN reporters spoke to more than 30 sources across the league who corroborated numerous stories about Snyder, including that he instructed his law firms to hire private investigators to get dirt on the league’s ownership group.

One specific example came from an owner who was allegedly told by Snyder that he “has dirt” on Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Another source confirmed that Snyder told a confidant that he has “a file” on Jones.

Jones has been one of the embroiled Commanders’ owner’s most important allies of late. However, that may be changing.

ESPN also revealed that Jerry Jones recently told confidants that he “might not be able” to protect Snyder any longer. The report claims Snyder has also “badmouthed” Jones. He told another owner recently that Jones is “only out to get in your pocket. He’ll sell you down the river. You can’t trust him,” a senior executive close to the owner said. “Snyder’s already lost Jerry,” the source added.

The Commanders released a statement to ESPN, which denied any animosity between the two owners. The statement claims Dan and Tanya “have a close and strong relationship with Jerry Jones and his entire family” and “great respect and admiration for one another.”

“We also understand that certain people believe their own interests will be advanced by convincing news outlets like ESPN to print false information about the Snyders and Joneses,” the Holland & Knight lawyers wrote.

ESPN reached out to the Cowboys owner but Jones declined to comment for this story, according to Jim Wilkinson, a Cowboys spokesman who also declined to comment.

Snyder v. NFL

Dan Snyder has caused the NFL headache after headache over the past few years. It’s been scandal after scandal. Few owners in NFL history have dirtied the image of the league worse than the Commanders owner.

Not only was the franchise accused of very serious sexual assault allegations, but more recently, the Commanders were accused of scamming their customers out of an alleged $5 millionOne team owner said of the ticket fraud scheme, “If that happened, I think that’s the nail in the coffin.”

The franchise has been in such dramatic dysfunction and disarray over the past few years, that they’ve drawn the attention of Congress a number of times.

Much of the Commanders’ fan base has wanted Snyder gone, and for quite some time. It’s been a dysfunctional franchise for more than two decades since he purchased the team in 1999.

In May, a report emerged that league owners would vote to remove Snyder, however, the NFL and Roger Goodell denied the report.
