Everette Sands posts picture with Vince Young after identity mistake on Golf Channel
The real Vince Young was located at the BMW Charity Pro-Am, which took place in South Carolina this week.
Young participated in the event and the NBC broadcast at one point showed an interview with a man who they thought was Young. However, as the reporter listed off Young’s accomplishments and spoke about how he just picked up golf four years ago, the man broke into a wide smile and eventually revealed that he was not Young, but instead Citadel assistant football coach Everette Sands.
“Now, I apologize,” Sands said. “But you have the wrong person. I’m Everette Sands of the Citadel. Which, I’m a football coach.”
Sands was wearing a Citadel shirt while speaking with the reporter and stands a solid head shorter than Young, but when he identified himself, the reporter just stared back blankly and continued to hold the microphone in his face. So, he tried to steer the awkward moment back towards golf.
“Um, but the great thing about golf is — I’m not only competing against myself but I’m competing against everybody else,” he said.
A couple of days later, Everette Sands tweeted out a picture from the pro-am with Vince Young, showing that they are, in fact, not the same person. Take a look:
In an interview with a local Charleston television station, Sands revealed he hadn’t since talked to the reporter who conducted the interview. He did get to discuss what happened with Young and show him the video of the whole moment.

“I haven’t seen her,” Sands said about the reporter. “I waited so I could talk to Vince and tell him what happened.”
However, once the clip reached social media, it quickly developed into a viral sensation, because you just don’t see that level of awkwardness on live television very often. Sands said he already had friends reaching out.
“Then, probably 30 minutes later, my college roommates was the first person who sent me the video of the live recording. It’s been buzzing ever since.”
A moment Sands will likely never forget, even if it’s for the awkwardness. Hopefully, he and Young were able to laugh about being confused for each other afterward, and maybe even share some stories with each other about their respective football careers.
You can watch the full clip of the initial interview right here, where the reporter drones on with her facts about Vince Young blissfully unaware that she’s actually speaking to Coach Sands.
