Ezekiel Elliott‘s agent spoke out after the star running back was released by the Dallas Cowboys. Rocky Arceneaux released a statement expressing his gratitude to the Cowboys for granting Elliott’s release.

“I’d like to thank Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys for affording Zeke this unique opportunity in granting us our release,” Arceneaux said, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz. “Even though nothing is imminent Zeke is excited about the possibilities and is grateful. He’s got a lot of good football left in him, and will remain a Dallas Cowboy for life.”

Elliott wanted the Cowboys to release him as he’s looking to help a playoff team make a Super Bowl run. During the offseason, Elliott signed with the Cowboys after spending the 2023 season with the New England Patriots. This was his second stint in Dallas as he was originally with the team from 2016 to 2022.

Jerry Jones sends message to Ezekiel Elliott

“Out of respect and appreciation for Zeke and wanting to provide him with an opportunity to pursue any potential playoff participation possible, we are releasing him from the Cowboys roster today,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “As I have said many times previously, Zeke’s impact as one of the greatest to ever play with the Star on their helmet will never change and is etched in our record books and history forever. We thank him, love him and wish him the absolute best.”

While serving as a backup running back this season, Elliott rushed for 226 yards and three touchdowns on 74 carries. During his first stint in Dallas, Elliott rushed for over 1,000 yards four times.

This past summer, Elliott talked about his new role with the Cowboys. “We’ve got eight backs right now, so plenty of depth,” he said, per the Cowboys’ official website. “We’ve got a lot of good, young players that bring a lot of good things to the table. I’m excited to get to work with them in camp and help them to continue to develop. [I’ve got] eight years with however many carries, however many reps and however many blitz pickups, just the experience. I’ve seen just about everything. I just want to give them a little bit of my experience and any tidbit that can help them with their game.”
