Ezekiel Elliott contract details revealed in second stint with Dallas Cowboys

After agreeing to terms to reunite with the Dallas Cowboys, the contract details for running back Ezekiel Elliott have been revealed. He is inking a deal for one year, $3 million, according to Fort Worth Star-Telegram‘s Clarence Hill. Of his $3 million deal, $2 million is guaranteed money.

He unites with the Cowboys after spending a single season with the New England Patriots. Elliott will have a physical on Monday morning, which is the final step of re-joining the team.

Elliott’s one-year deal with the Patriots expired in March. He played for $3 million and he still counts for a $6 million dead cap hit for Dallas in 2024.

In 17 games played for New England last season, he rushed on a career-low 184 carries, posting 642 rushing yards with three touchdowns. He also added 51 catches for 313 yards and two more scores.

The Cowboys’ running backs room now consists of Elliott, Rico Dowdle, Malik Davis, Royce Freeman, Deuce Vaughn, Hunter Luepke, Snoop Conner and Nathaniel Peat.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Elliott: ‘He’s a positive’

Pre-empting the team resigning the former first-rounder, team owner Jerry Jones praised the veteran running back on Saturday after the draft.

“He’s a positive influence at all times,” Jones said on Saturday. “Not one time, even in maybe some critical times, has he been anything but a positive and a winning influence as a person and a teammate of the Dallas Cowboys. That’s a big plus that he has. He’s a lift. He’s outstanding in that area.

“The bottom line is that he’s a positive. He’s a positive. I think he would potentially be positive for this team.”

A star at Ohio State prior to his days in the NFL, Elliott was a top five pick for the Cowboys in the 2016 draft and went on to have a stellar handful of years with the franchise. Elliott ran for over 1,400 yards in two of his first three seasons, including a career-high 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns as a rookie in 2016. Elliott was a First Team All-Pro selection and NFL leading rusher as a rookie. He would go on to earn two All-Pro honors, three Pro Bowl selections and two rushing titles with the Cowboys.

In his first seven seasons with Dallas, Elliott ran for 8,262 yards and 68 touchdowns. His time with the team came to an end after the 2022 season when the Cowboys decided to turn to Tony Pollard as the No. 1 running back in the offense. Now, Pollard is in Tennessee and Zeke is back where it all began.
