The Dallas Cowboys are tired of hearing about there being any quarterback controversy, according to a strong statement by Ezekiel Elliott. The Dallas star running back was asked how he felt about people questioning Dak Prescott‘s status as a starter when he returns from injury — prompting Elliott to drop an expletive in his answer.

Dallas is now 4-1 on the season with Cooper Rush remaining undefeated as a starter after stepping in for Prescott after he injured his thumb on his throwing hand. The hot streak has led many fans and analysts to question whether or not Dallas should continue to ride the hot hand and keep Rush as the starter, even if Prescott gets healthy.

Elliott had choice words for anybody suggesting that his friend and starting quarterback was facing calls for him to be replaced as the starter.

“We’re the Cowboys. People always have something to say about us. Fuck em. All we care about is what’s in this locker room, what’s in this building,” said Elliott via The Athletic‘s Jon Machota.

Elliott and the Dallas offense have praised Rush’s abilities as a quarterback since he was tabbed as starter in relief of Prescott, saying that they had full faith in Rush as their leader. According to Elliott, the only thing that matters to their team is the success they see on the field and the comradery in the locker room — external opinions are not something they worry about.

In four starts and one quarter of play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after Prescott was injured, Rush has been efficient in his control of the offense. With zero turnovers on the year and four-straight wins, the biggest question mark still facing him is his lack of offensive output in the Dallas wins. On the season through four games and a quarter, Rush has completed 72-of-118 passes for 839 yards and four touchdowns.

Earlier in the winning stretch, owner Jerry Jones appeared to joke that Rush’s successful start to his career — going 5-0 as a starter now — could mean there’s a growing controversy at the quarterback position. Jones quickly walked back those comments after their win over Washington last week, but the continued success has kept the question alive in the minds of fans.
