Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott shared how Dallas responded after losing Dak Prescott to injury, and rallying behind Cooper Rush. The Cowboys responded to having Rush lead the offense with their first win of the season and a pair of touchdown drives to start the game against the Bengals last week.

According to Elliott as he spoke on NFL Live, Dallas felt the pain of losing Prescott and guard Connor McGovern in their season opener — but the team knew that Rush was more than capable of stepping up to the role of starter while Prescott recovers.

“Just to rally around Coop,” said Elliott of how Dallas responded last week. “You know it’s tough losing your quarterback. We also lost our left guard, Connor McGovern in that first game. But just rally around Coop. We know Coop’s been around for a good amount of time, I think he’s been here five out of six years in the league. He knows this offense, and he’s a guy that can go out there and help us win ball games. So let’s kinda rally around him and do everything we can to support him.”

Elliott was then asked about how it feels to rush alongside Tony Pollard, and how the Cowboys’ two-headed rushing attack keeps defenses on edge.

“I think we have different running styles. I’m more of a bruiser. He definitely can do that too, but he’s a fast guy. He’s a guy that any time he touches the rock he might go score a touchdown. So, I think our running styles complement each other and it’s definitely tough on opposing defenses.”

The long-time Dallas star also spoke about how it felt to be “underdogs” for the immediate future, and how the pressure of playing for the Cowboys is something you learn to deal with over time.

“You gotta know that’s just what comes with being in Dallas. You gotta know there will be a lot of media attention and I think it’s something that you know, takes a little time to get used to. But it’s the nature of the beast, and that’s why you either hate us or you love us.”

The Cowboys now travel to MetLife Stadium for a Monday Night Football matchup with their division rival New York Giants. Dallas finds themselves tied for last in the division with Washington, trailing the 2-0 Giants and Eagles. A win on Monday could move them up the standings and set them up for successful record despite losing Prescott.
