Falcons QB Kirk Cousins rallies in wild finish to complete epic comeback over Eagles
Kirk Cousins led the Atlanta Falcons to a 22-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football after throwing a touchdown pass to Drake London with 34 seconds left in the game. The Falcons drove down the field on a six-play 70-yard drive after the Eagles kicked a field goal to lead 21-15.
The Eagles had a chance to win the game on the ensuing drive, but Jessie Bates intercepted a Jalen Hurts pass to put the game on ice. The Falcons improved their record to 1-1, and the Eagles dropped to 1-1.
The game had seven lead changes with the Falcons taking the lead four times. It looked as if the Eagles were going to get the win after stopping the Falcons on a four-and-one with 5:42 remaining in the game while leading 18-15. But as the Eagles were melting the clock away, Saquon Barkley dropped a third-down pass from Hurts, which led to the field goal. That play allowed the Falcons to drive down the field despite not having any timeouts remaining.
The win was big for Atlanta because they will face the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night. But the Falcons also wanted to play better than they did against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. In that game, the Falcons lost 18-10 and Cousins threw two interceptions.

“He’s going to bring the urgency. He’s going to bring everything he has to do in order to play better to find a way to get that thing to the results that we want,” Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said of Cousins last week, per the Falcons’ official website. “I got all the confidence in the world because of who he is.”
“Kirk is someone that is not sensitive to criticism. He’s been there before, and I know he’s a leader on this team, and I know how he’ll respond to it. It’s still the same Kirk. One week is not going to define who he is, who we are as a team,” Falcons safety Bates said. “I wouldn’t put my money on anyone else but Kirk when we’re in those types of situations. He’s a guy that’s handled adversity multiple times throughout his career, and I know he’ll respond well.”
