The Atlanta Falcons have a new quarterback bringing renewed hope into the building for the 2024 season and things are going swimmingly between the former Viking and returning running back Bijan Robinson so far. Robinson provided his first impressions of quarterback Kirk Cousins last week after wrapping up a few weeks of OTAs and minicamp. In short, the former Longhorns star believes Cousins has all the tools the Falcons need.

“Obviously, he’s been in the league a long time so he’s already established things that he’s done,” Robinson said. “He brings that leadership. The cool thing with him is having a quarterback who studies so much. I saw his play sheet and spot sheet, and him throwing into those spots, it’s kind of crazy.

“Having a guy that can sling the ball and also is really particular on the little details of the things he does. Me and him just work on how he wants me to run certain routes and get open, it’s always great information. Having a guy like that, who’s already a top-10 quarterback, and really show it, it’s been fun.”

Before tearing his Achilles last season, Cousins played in eight games and had the third-best completion percentage of his career at 69.5%. He had 2,331 passing yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions while bringing Minnesota to a 4-4 record.

Robinson jokes that Cousins could be his dad

Robinson was also asked about Cousins’ “dad energy” and how it feels in the locker room.

“Me and Kirk are right next to each other in the locker room,” Robinson said. “One time, we were saying something that he’s done in back in the day, and I was like, ‘Bro, I was born in 2002.’ And he was like, ‘Bro, I was in seventh grade.’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ I think Kirk is old enough to be my dad.

“Love that dude. We always joke with him and he takes it so good and so easy. That’s the fun of it when you have a guy that’s right next to you can have fun and take all the jokes and still be focused on the field. It’s always good to have somebody like that.”

Though Cousins isn’t really old enough to be anyone’s dad on the Falcons roster, he is the oldest player on the team at 35 years old. On the flip side, Robinson the one of the youngest players at 22 years old. The Falcons are hoping the combination of Cousins’ experience at QB and Robinson’s playmaking ability at running back can lead to improved success this fall. The Falcons went 7-10 before picking up Cousins this offseason.
