Security guards don’t get paid enough. A recent situation at a Seattle Mariners game couldn’t be better proof.

On Wednesday night, fans got more entertainment than they paid for in the Mariners’ 1-0 triumph over the New York Yankees. In the middle of the 10th inning, a fan jumped onto the field and began to jog around like it was his backyard.

The security staff at the stadium quickly reminded him it wasn’t. It didn’t take long for the bouncers to chase the flannel-wearing assailant into the left-field corner. Then, the already odd situation took a turn for the weirder.

A seemingly innocent bystander attempted to stop the culprit, reaching out from the stands. He reached too far. In a matter of moments, the good-willed fan ended up with his face in the dirt. Now, the muscle at T-Mobile Park had two baseball enthusiasts to clean off the field.

The rush of adrenaline isn’t worth the risk. In some states, the risky behavior can be met with $25,000 fines and up to a year in jail time. In other territory, the 15 seconds of fame can simply lead to a night in jail.

No matter the consequences, the wild delays of game will always awaken a dead crowd. Some fans cheered for the delusional fan, yelling at each juke. Other diehards rolled their eyes, annoyed by the stop in play.

Love it or hate it, spectators jumping on fields, court, pitches and more is tradition; a tradition that’s here to stay.

More havoc in the MLB

During the Yankees’ nail biting 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles last week, fans got a show they didn’t pay for. The responses were… Varied.

The 22-second clip plays out like a Shakespearian play. Squirrel enters stage, dramatic response, heart-pumping action, squirrel exits stage. Seriously, get this squirrel on broadway. At the very least, give it a glove and stick it in right field.

While everybody enjoyed the odd interaction, many outsiders were confused by the fans’ seemingly terrified reaction.

“Take it easy, my god, you’ve seen enough rats in New York, what’s the big difference with a squirrel?” Chris Russo said on ESPN’s First Take.

Whether the squirrel was the villain or the hero of the story, it was undoubtedly the star of the show. Not every animal who has ended up at a sporting event has been so lucky. Who can forget the time San Antonio Spurs legend Manu Ginobili swatted a bat, or a multitude of “rally” animals became MLB icons.
